Volvo B18 and B20 Valve Lash Adjustment

For most of our cam, ans stock Volvo cams .016 - .018 is recommended.  The more gap the less lift = reduced power. So you want to give it the least gap necessary.  We can change the gap by a few thousanths and see the difference on the dyno.

I recommend using the "Nines" adjustment method.,

Nines method

1 - Roll engine until #8 valve is fully open, adjust valve #1.
2 - Roll engine until #7 valve is fully open, adjust valve #2.
3 - Roll engine until #6 valve is fully open, adjust valve #3.
4 - Repeat until all 8 have been adjusted. (

The # of the open valve plus the # of the adjusted valve should always add up to 9.  You can do the adjustment in any order and just keep track of which valves you have adjusted. Its easier to do if you remove the spark plugs first.
